It would be a great feature to have the ability to differentiate between marketing and essential order communications in the unsubscribe options. For example, you may want to unsubscribe from marketing but still remain on a list for communications about orders, course updates, or products you’ve previously purchased
Sara, if someeone unsubscribes, he/she still remains in your CRM, and you can send individual transactional eMails in relation to his/her purchases or course/community membership, or his/her order. The latter would be system eMails such as order confirmation, order sent, order cancelled etc., that are sent by the system but not useful as a campaign as they contain individual info anyways.
For the product / course updates - depending on where you are in the EU, next to GDPR, there might be strict legal obligations if you are allowed to send these eMails at all. Not only privacy but, e.g. in Germany, law against unfair competition etc.
Technically, you could builid an automation that moves contacts into a special list as soon as they unsubscribe, with a trigger “removed from list(s)” in combination with purchased product ABC or is member of XYZ… but you have to be careful to act within the law
If you have several thematic lists to which a user is subscribed to, and you want to allow individual opt-out instead of removal from all lists automatically via the unsubscribe, this is currently not possible. BUT you could think of another workaround. e.g.:
Build a separate page with a form (quiz/survey) where the user can select from which lists/topics he/she wants to unsubscribe from instead of all. Each answer option is tagged specifically (unique tags). An automation, based on the tag(s) then removes from the contact the selected list(s).
In your eMails, next to the general “Unsubcribe” button, you can add the link to this separate page, e.g. with text “Manage your settings” or similar.
Hi Suzan! Thank you for the comment. I am aware that it is still possible to send system emails to those who unsubscribe or are not on a list at all. The point here is to be able to unsubscribe from marketing campaigns and email broadcasts they don’t want. But that the person who is admin should be able to send updates to those who are in a course or a membership by email. And thats not possible if they are not a subcriber. I think that many who are in for example a membership want updates about what is happening. And a lot of people who run memberships or courses send out updates and reminders by email about for example live broadcasts and similar happenings.
That was a great tip on being able to set up your own opt-out page using a quiz. But I know that this is a much-desired function and one that already exists in many other programs.
