Shipping options per category OR rule-based#2765

S

For selling physical products via Simvoly, I miss options to define shipping method based on category, as well as a combined shipping option (add-on calculation).

I see many feature requests related to ship options in the feed, some dating some 6-7 years. What is the plan for Simvoly to improve that part of the platform? Is it on the agenda at all?

To give you a real-world scenario:

A terraristic shop is selling physical goods like terrarium accessories but also living animals (reptiles, snakes etc.). The latter can only be shipped using a very distinct shipping provider, and that option should be the only shipping option when a customer is placing animals into their shopping basket / at check-out.
Currently, there is no way to link this ship option to a specific shop category, though.

The current workaround is using an artificial high weight value per animal product, for the ship option to be shown, and a distinct check-out page separate from the standard store overview,, to avoid orders mix animals and accessory items. A situation which is far from ideal. If there was shipping cost per category AND a rule-based shipping cost, this would not be necessary.
For example, if someone would order a mix of animal and accessories, then theoretically, a combined shipping option (cost for animal transport + cost of “normal” parcel service) should be shown. A standard in other shop systems…

A similar phenomenon applies for items that need a freight forwarder (palette shipments) vs a normal parcel courier; if that ship option could be linked to a specific category, that would solve so many headaches.
Current workaround (again) is using an artificially high weight value for the items that need freight forwarder shipments).
